1. Cratering — fatigue failure
1. Spot polishing — incorrect seating
1. Imbedded dirty engine oil
1. Scratching — dirty engine oil
1. Base exposed — poor lubrication
1. Both edges worn — journal damaged
1. One edge worn — journal tapered or bearing not seated
