Removal and Installation

NOTICE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may occur.

NOTICE: Do not allow power steering fluid to contact the accessory drive belt or damage to the belt may occur.

  1. With a suitable suction device, remove the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley. For additional information, refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley in this section.
  1. Disconnect the pressure line fitting from the power steering pump.
    • Position the pressure line aside.
    • To install, tighten to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).
  1. Release the clamp and disconnect the return hose from the power steering pump.
  1. Remove the 4 bolts and the power steering pump and fluid reservoir.
    • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  1. Remove the Teflon® seal from the power steering pressure line fitting.
    • Discard the Teflon® seal.
  1. NOTICE: Use a slight twisting motion when removing the reservoir and carefully pull it away from the pump on the same axis as the reservoir outlet tube to avoid damaging the reservoir.

    NOTICE: Whenever the fluid reservoir is separated from the pump, new O-ring seal(s) must be installed or a fluid leak may occur.

    If necessary, remove the power steering fluid reservoir from the power steering pump and discard the O-ring seal(s).

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Using the Teflon® Seal Installer Set, install a new Teflon® seal on the pressure line fitting.

  1. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to Section  211-00.
