WARNING
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advises that radio-frequency signals may interfere with aircraft communication and navigation systems. Do not operate the Intelligent Key while aboard an aircraft.
Before boarding a flight, ensure that the Intelligent Key buttons cannot be pressed accidentally while stored in a pocket, bag, carry-on item, or other personal belongings.
Failure to follow these precautions could allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly, potentially causing serious personal injury, property damage, or an accident.
The Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system allows convenient operation of the vehicle's door locks through remote-control functions or by using the request switch (if equipped) without removing the key from a pocket, purse, backpack, or other personal item.
This advanced keyless-entry technology is designed to improve convenience while maintaining a high level of security. However, environmental conditions and operating circumstances may affect system performance.
Before using the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system, carefully review the following information to ensure proper operation.
CAUTION
The Intelligent Key continuously sends and receives low-power radio-frequency signals to communicate with the Nissan Frontier. Under certain conditions, interference may affect the operation of the system.
Environmental factors that may influence Intelligent Key performance include:
If any of these conditions interfere with Intelligent Key operation, adjust the environment whenever possible or use the mechanical key until normal operation is restored.
Although actual battery life depends on usage patterns and environmental conditions, the typical service life of a Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key battery is approximately two years. When battery performance decreases, replace the battery with a new one of the specified type.
When the battery charge becomes low, the "Key Battery Low" warning message appears in the Nissan Frontier vehicle information display to alert the driver that battery replacement may soon be required.
Because the Intelligent Key constantly receives radio signals, battery life may be shortened if the key is stored near equipment that emits strong radio-frequency transmissions, including televisions, personal computers, wireless communication devices, and similar electronics.
To maximize battery life, avoid storing the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key near such equipment whenever possible.
Special care should also be taken to prevent complete discharge of the vehicle battery, as a weak vehicle battery may affect operation of certain Intelligent Key functions.
Up to four Intelligent Keys can be registered and used with a single Nissan Frontier. This flexibility allows multiple drivers to conveniently operate the vehicle using their own registered key.
For information regarding the purchase, programming, replacement, or registration of additional Nissan Frontier Intelligent Keys, it is recommended that you contact or visit an authorized NISSAN dealer.
The Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system combines convenience, security, and advanced wireless technology, helping provide quick vehicle access and simplified operation while maintaining protection against unauthorized vehicle use.
The Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system operates only when the registered Intelligent Key is located within the specified operating range of the request switch 1 (if so equipped). This advanced keyless-entry technology allows convenient locking, unlocking, and vehicle access without removing the key from a pocket, bag, or purse.
If the Intelligent Key battery becomes weak or discharged, or if strong radio-frequency interference is present in the surrounding area, the effective operating range may be reduced. Under such conditions, the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key may respond inconsistently or fail to function until the interference is removed or the battery is replaced.
Under normal operating conditions, the effective operating range extends approximately 31.5 in (80 cm) from each request switch 1 (if so equipped).
To ensure reliable performance, avoid positioning the Intelligent Key extremely close to the exterior door glass, door handle, or request switch area. In some situations, the Nissan Frontier system may have difficulty accurately detecting the key when it is positioned too close to these components.
Whenever the Intelligent Key is within the authorized operating range, any person can press the request switch and operate the locking or unlocking function, even if that individual is not carrying the Intelligent Key. For this reason, always maintain awareness of your surroundings and keep the Intelligent Key in a secure location.
The Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system is designed to provide a balance of convenience and security while simplifying everyday vehicle access.
Door locks/unlocks precaution
Environmental conditions such as nearby communication towers, electronic devices, metal structures, and radio-frequency interference may occasionally influence Intelligent Key performance. If operation becomes inconsistent, move the key slightly away from nearby electronic devices and try again.
For the most reliable Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key operation, keep the key battery in good condition and avoid storing the key near powerful electronic equipment that may interfere with radio communication signals.

Lockout protection
To help prevent accidental lock-in situations, the Nissan Frontier is equipped with a lockout protection feature as part of the Intelligent Key system.
If the driver's door is open, the doors are locked, and the Intelligent Key remains inside the vehicle when the door is subsequently closed, the Nissan Frontier will automatically unlock all doors.
This feature is designed to reduce the likelihood of accidentally locking the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle and helps provide added convenience during daily use.
Even though the lockout protection system provides an additional safeguard, drivers should always verify that the Intelligent Key is in their possession before locking the Nissan Frontier and leaving the vehicle.
The Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system combines convenience, security, and advanced electronic access control technology, making vehicle entry and locking operations faster and more intuitive while helping to protect against unauthorized access.
NOTE:
The Nissan Frontier doors may not lock properly if the Intelligent Key is being held in the same hand that is pressing the request switch (if so equipped). Because the key is positioned extremely close to the door handle, the system may have difficulty determining whether the Intelligent Key is inside or outside the vehicle. For the most reliable operation, place the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key in a pocket, purse, backpack, or your opposite hand before pressing the request switch.
CAUTION
The Nissan Frontier lockout protection system may not function correctly under the following circumstances:
Under these conditions, the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key system may not accurately detect the key location, which can affect normal lockout protection operation.
Unlocking doors
1. Carry the registered Nissan Frontier Intelligent Key with you and remain within the specified operating range.
