Nissan Frontier: Instruments and Controls - Rear Door Alert

Nissan Frontier 2022-2026 Owner's Manual / Instruments and Controls / Rear Door Alert

The Rear Door Alert system in the Nissan Frontier is designed to help drivers remember that an object, pet, or passenger may still be in the rear seating area. Before leaving the vehicle, always check the rear seats to ensure nothing important has been left behind.

By default, the Rear Door Alert feature is disabled when the vehicle is delivered.

The driver can activate or deactivate this convenient safety feature through the vehicle information display settings menu.

When the system is enabled:

  • The system becomes active when one of the rear doors is opened and closed within 10 minutes before the Nissan Frontier is driven. Once the driver's door is closed and the vehicle begins operating, a visual notification appears in the vehicle information display to indicate that the Rear Door Alert system has been activated.
  • If a rear door is opened and closed but the vehicle is not driven within approximately 10 minutes, the system will not activate. To trigger the feature, a rear door must be opened and closed and the Nissan Frontier must then be driven within the specified time period.

When the Rear Door Alert system has been activated and the driver reaches the destination, the following actions may occur:

  • After shifting the Nissan Frontier into the P (Park) position, a message appears in the vehicle information display allowing the driver to select either "Dismiss Message" or "Disable Alert" if desired.
  • With the system enabled, an audible horn alert will sound after the driver exits the vehicle unless a rear door is opened and closed within a short period of time to cancel the reminder.
  • If the vehicle doors are locked before the alert is canceled by opening a rear door, the horn will sound as an additional reminder.
  • When the audible warning is activated, a message also appears in the vehicle information display stating, "Check Rear Seat for All Articles," reminding the driver to inspect the rear seating area.

The Rear Door Alert feature adds an extra layer of awareness for Nissan Frontier owners and can be especially useful when transporting children, pets, groceries, luggage, work equipment, or other valuable items that could easily be forgotten in the rear seat area.

WARNING

  • If the driver selects "Disable Alert," no audible reminder will be provided regardless of whether a rear door was opened or closed.
  • There may be situations where an object or passenger is present in the rear seat area but the audible alert does not sound. For example, this may occur if rear-seat passengers enter or exit the Nissan Frontier during a trip without triggering the system conditions.
  • The Rear Door Alert system does not directly detect passengers, pets, or objects inside the rear seating area. Instead, it monitors rear door activity and uses that information to determine whether a reminder should be issued.

NOTE:

In certain situations, the horn reminder may sound even though there are no passengers, pets, or belongings in the rear seat area. This is normal operation and results from the system responding to rear door activity rather than directly detecting rear-seat occupancy.

The Rear Door Alert feature is intended as a supplemental reminder only. Drivers of the Nissan Frontier should always visually inspect the rear seating area before exiting the vehicle to help ensure that no passengers, pets, or personal belongings are unintentionally left behind.
