Basic information
If the brakes do not operate normally, or if braking performance feels reduced, uneven, noisy, or unusual, have the brake system checked. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
Self-adjusting brakes
Your Nissan Frontier is equipped with self-adjusting brakes.
The front and rear disc-type brakes automatically adjust every time the brake pedal is applied, helping maintain proper pedal feel and braking response during normal operation.
WARNING
Have the brake system checked if the brake pedal height does not return to normal. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
Brake pad wear indicators
The disc brake pads on the Nissan Frontier are equipped with audible wear indicators. When a brake pad requires replacement, a high-pitched scraping or screeching sound may be heard while the vehicle is moving. This noise may occur whether or not the brake pedal is being pressed. If the wear indicator sound is heard, have the brakes inspected as soon as possible.
Under certain driving or climate conditions, occasional brake squeaks, squeals, or other minor noises may be heard. Light brake noise during gentle or moderate stops can be normal and does not necessarily affect brake system function or performance.
Proper brake inspection intervals should always be followed. For additional information about brake inspection requirements for the Nissan Frontier, refer to the appropriate maintenance schedule in the "Maintenance and schedules" section of this manual.
Regular brake inspections, timely pad replacement, and attention to unusual sounds help preserve safe stopping performance and long-term braking reliability.
