The Nissan Frontier engine cooling system is filled at the factory with a pre-diluted mixture of 50% Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) and 50% water. This mixture is designed to provide year-round coolant performance, freeze protection, and reliable engine temperature control.
The antifreeze solution also contains rust and corrosion inhibitors that help protect the radiator, engine passages, hoses, and other cooling system components. Additional cooling system additives are not required and should not be used unless specifically recommended.
WARNING
Allow the engine and radiator to cool completely before opening the system. Hot coolant under pressure can escape suddenly and cause serious burns.
CAUTION
Using coolant other than Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or a proper equivalent may damage the engine cooling system.
Check the coolant level in the reservoir only when the Nissan Frontier engine is cold. If the coolant level is below the MIN mark B, add coolant until it reaches the MAX mark A. If the reservoir is empty, check the coolant level in the radiator after the engine has cooled completely. If the radiator level is low, fill the radiator with coolant up to the filler opening, then add coolant to the reservoir until it reaches the MAX level A.
This vehicle contains Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue). The factory-fill coolant is designed to last up to 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 7 years under normal conditions. Mixing other coolant types or using non-distilled water will reduce the expected life of the factory-fill coolant. For more information, see the "Maintenance and schedules" section of this manual.
If the cooling system frequently requires additional coolant, there may be a leak or another system concern. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for inspection and service.
Changing engine coolant
A NISSAN dealer can replace the Nissan Frontier engine coolant using the correct service procedure. The proper procedure is described in the NISSAN Service Manual.
Improper coolant replacement or incorrect servicing can reduce heater performance and may cause engine overheating.
WARNING
Engine coolant must be disposed of properly and never poured onto the ground, into drains, or into household waste systems.
Check and follow all local regulations for coolant disposal. Proper coolant maintenance helps protect the Nissan Frontier engine from overheating, freezing, corrosion, and long-term cooling system damage.
