WARNING
When the vehicle is stopped on a steep grade, maintain firm brake pedal pressure as required. Exercise additional caution when operating on icy, muddy, loose, or slippery surfaces. Failure to prevent unwanted vehicle movement may result in loss of control, property damage, serious injury, or death.
Always remain prepared to apply the brake pedal immediately to prevent rearward movement. Relying entirely on the system could result in a collision, vehicle damage, or serious injury.
When the Nissan Frontier comes to a complete stop on an uphill grade, the hill start assist system automatically maintains brake pressure for a short period after the driver releases the brake pedal. This feature helps minimize vehicle rollback and allows smoother transitions between braking and acceleration.
The hill start assist system is designed to provide additional confidence when starting on steep inclines, especially when towing, carrying cargo, or operating in off-road conditions where precise vehicle control is essential.
Hill start assist will operate automatically when all of the following conditions are met:
The maximum brake holding period provided by the hill start assist system is approximately 2 seconds.
After this holding period expires, the Nissan Frontier may begin to roll backward if sufficient accelerator input has not been applied, and hill start assist operation will end.
Hill start assist is not activated when the shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park), nor will it engage when the vehicle is positioned on a flat, level surface where rollback prevention is unnecessary.
By helping reduce rollback during hill starts, this Nissan Frontier feature enhances driver comfort, improves launch confidence, and contributes to safer vehicle operation in challenging driving environments.
