Nissan Frontier Owner's Manuals and Service Guides

Nissan Frontier: Maintenance and schedules - Maintenance schedules

Basic information

To help keep the Nissan Frontier running smoothly, safely, and economically, NISSAN provides two maintenance schedules that can be followed depending on how and where the vehicle is normally driven. These schedules include both mileage and time intervals up to 120,000 miles (192,000 km) or 96 months. For many owners, the odometer reading will determine when service is due. However, if the Nissan Frontier is driven only occasionally or covers very low mileage, maintenance should still be performed at the regular time intervals shown in the schedule.

After 120,000 miles (192,000 km) or 96 months, continue performing maintenance at the same mileage and time intervals to help preserve reliability and long-term vehicle performance.

Additional maintenance items for severe operating conditions

Additional maintenance items for severe operating conditions should be performed when the Nissan Frontier is driven in especially demanding environments or under heavier-than-normal use. These extra services are important because severe use can increase wear on the engine, brakes, drivetrain, suspension, tires, and fluids.

Additional maintenance items should be performed if the Nissan Frontier is primarily operated under any of the following conditions:

  • Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles (8 km).
  • Repeated short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km) when outside temperatures remain below freezing.
  • Operation in hot weather during stop-and-go "rush hour" traffic.
  • Extensive idling and/or long-distance low-speed driving, such as police, taxi, commercial, or door-to-door delivery use.
  • Driving in dusty conditions.
  • Driving on rough, muddy, salted, or heavily treated roads.
  • Towing a trailer, using a camper, or carrying cargo with a roof-mounted carrier.

If your Nissan Frontier is usually driven under these severe conditions, follow the severe-use maintenance intervals listed in the maintenance schedule rather than the standard schedule.

* Maintenance items and intervals marked with "*" are recommended by NISSAN to help support reliable Nissan Frontier operation. The owner is not required to perform these specific items solely to maintain the emission warranty or manufacturer recall liability, while other required maintenance items and intervals must still be followed.

(1) Request that a NISSAN dealer inspect the automatic transmission fluid deterioration data using CONSULT. If the deterioration data is greater than 77000, replace the AT fluid.

(2) If the Nissan Frontier is operated mainly in dusty conditions, more frequent maintenance may be required.

(3) This item is performed based only on the number of service months.

(4) The propeller shaft should be regreased after it has been immersed in water.

At higher mileage, following the correct Nissan Frontier maintenance schedule becomes especially important for protecting engine lubrication, brake performance, transmission condition, driveline components, suspension parts, steering response, and long-term vehicle dependability.
