Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not
use any fluid other than clean brake fluid meeting manufacturer's specification. Additionally, do not use brake fluid that has been previously drained. Following these instructions will help prevent system contamination, brake component damage and the risk of serious personal injury.

For additional information, consult the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) if available. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

NOTICE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

  1. Remove the brake shoes. For additional information, refer to Brake Shoes in this section.
  1. Disconnect the brake tube fitting from the wheel cylinder.
    • To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
  1. Remove the 2 wheel cylinder bolts and the wheel cylinder.
    • To install, tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
  1. Press the retaining clip and disconnect the parking brake cable from the backing plate.
  1. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt and position the sensor aside.
    • To install, tighten the bolt to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  1. Remove the 4 wheel spindle bolts, the wheel spindle and the backing plate.
    • To install, tighten the bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  1. NOTE:

    Prior to installing the wheel cylinder, apply a bead of the specified sealant to the wheel cylinder as shown.

    NOTE:

    Make sure that all mating surfaces are free of foreign material.

    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Bleed the wheel cylinder. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 for component bleeding.
