Removal

  1. Remove the halfshaft. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft — LH or Halfshaft — RH in this section.
  1. Secure the halfshaft in a soft-jawed vise and separate the CV joint housing from the halfshaft.
    • Remove and discard the CV joint boot retaining clamps.
    • Remove the CV joint housing.

  1. Remove and discard the circlip.

  1. Using a suitable 3-jaw puller, remove the tripod.
    • Discard the CV joint boot.

Installation

  1. NOTICE: Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees or damage to the joint may occur.

    Install a new CV joint boot.


  1. NOTE:

    Install a new CV joint boot retaining clamp.

    Using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer, install the CV joint boot retaining inner clamp.


  1. NOTE:

    Do not damage the CV joint bearings.

    Using a suitable installer, install the tripod.


  1. Install the new circlip.

  1. Apply grease to the CV joint. For additional information, refer to Specifications in this section.
  1. Position the tripod in the housing.
    1. Push the tripod to the bottom of the housing.
    1. Position the boot clamp on the boot.

  1. NOTICE: Use care not to damage the boot or component damage may occur.

    Install front halfshaft.

    1. Insert a small screwdriver under the boot seat to allow the air to escape.
    1. Slide the tripod joint in as far as possible, then pull it out 20 mm (0.787 in).
    • Remove the screwdriver.

  1. Install the boot clamp using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer.

  1. Install the halfshaft. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft — LH or Halfshaft — RH in this section.
